The bourn. Retreat

March 2, 2017

My bourn. journey....

From the moment I arrived at the beautiful seaside location, I knew I was in for an extraordinary weekend. Guided by my trusty Google Maps, I drove down the rugged back road towards the retreat.
Suddenly, an overwhelming feeling came over me. I realised, the last time I went to a place where I didn't know anyone was a holiday camp in 2005...I felt completely vulnerable but reminded myself to be open to the unknown because this is why I chose to go on this experience.

As I reached the entrance, I was greeted by a gorgeous, confident and excited member of the bourn. team which instantly made me feel welcome and relaxed.
It wasn't long after that I found myself in a room full of bear hugs, infectious smiles and like minded people who were all there for the same reason.

Unplanned, unknown and completely vulnerable.

The Activities:

I've always considered myself a 'dreamer' but haven't quite learnt the art of planning exactly how to get there, step by step.
The clarity I gained at bourn. gave me a deeper perspective of life and guided me towards setting goals I never allowed myself to imagine.

Over the course of the two days, we were given a range of mental, physical and emotional exercises which encouraged us to think outside the box with no limitations.
One of my favourite activities was creating a mood board of what I wanted my life to look like in years to come.
This is certainly a task I feel everyone should do!

I also loved the beach walk - breathing in the crisp air, feeling the sand between my toes and letting the water lap across my feet.

It was pure bliss and something I don't often get a chance to do.

The Guest Speakers:

I believe a big part of going on your own journey is learning from others and being able to relate to their stories.
So, you can image, I was super excited when I learned we had guest speakers coming in to speak to us!

During the course of the weekend, a guest speaker would just 'pop up' almost out of nowhere (we never quite knew what we were doing next) and we all hustled around them like excited little girls, eagerly waiting to hear what they had to say.

Firstly, we had the pleasure of listening to the empowering life story of Chantelle James, the owner and director of 'Outlaws Edge'.

Chantelle spoke of her experience as a cheerleader, the ups and downs of being a woman in business and building an empire to help inspire and support aspiring cheerleaders.

I was amazed at Chantelle's determination and self belief.
Hearing her story gave all of us motivation to keep doing what we love despite the challenges that can come when following your dreams.

Our next guest speaker was the well renowned Sita Huber, the nutritionist for 'Australia’s Next Top Model' and creator of the 'Beauty Fuel Diet.'
I sat in fascination as Sita spoke about hormones within the female body and how to use food to manage each stage of your cycle.

Best of all, I actually understood what Sita was talking about because it was explained so incredibly clearly! #sosmart

Lastly, we had the pleasure of experiencing an evening and morning session of self-inquiry yoga and meditation with the great Martine Casagrande of
'Living and Loving It'.

I had never participated in a proper yoga class before (I know, shock horror!) and found it was an uplifting and eye opening experience which left me feeling reconnected and calm, something I hadn't felt for a very long time.

The Goodie Bags:

Oh my golly gosh - the bourn. goodie bag! *insert excited face
There was a wonderful mix of wellbeing magazines, sustainable and naturally sourced beauty products, edible treats and tools to help you reach your life goals.
I felt like it was my birthday all over again!
#ilovepressies

I don't usually like to push brand names on to people, but in this case, I feel strongly about sharing these products with you because I think they stand out from the crowd and could be a great options for those of you who are wanting to swap to more ethical or natural products at some point.

The best part about it all is knowing each item was carefully picked by the bourn. team so, you know they've been chosen with love!

NP: I've added a link to the full list of products on the bottom of the page so you can check them out in your own time!

As the weekend came to an end, each of us walked away with a deeper knowledge, a fresh, open mind and a stronger direction of where we wanted to go in our lives.

I'd like to say a BIG 'thank you' to the bourn. team for creating such a wonderful experience for us all.

Standing with the amazing Bourn. team
